Wheel base

Thank you for all your best wishes and a Happy New Year!

We made significant steps with Wheel in the final weeks of 2017. Purchasing of the standard parts used in Wheel has begun. Design changes seem to be inevitable when parts don’t meet the specs or delivery dates, but we’re on top of that. Most custom parts are frozen for production. We’re still working on a few arm and platter related issues, but solutions are on the way.

Wheel’s base

In the meantime we’re proud to show you Wheel’s central bearing and baseplate. A crucial and defining part of Wheel, and a true innovation!

Pertinax

After working with all sorts of metals and composites, we finally decided to use machined Pertinax for the base of Wheel. Pertinax was developed in the 1920’s. It’s very dense, stable and non magnetic. This ‘old' material has unique mechanical and acoustical properties and has proven to be the ideal foundation for Wheel.

Unique platter bearing

We developed a main bearing with concentric ring magnets! Hifi enthusiasts know that repelling magnet systems are sometimes used to dampen vibrations. Our concentric magnet bearing design takes this concept one step further. It’s enclosed magnetic field effectively levitates the platter into a fixed position, regardless of its orientation. Because the platter floats in an accurately controlled air slot, vibrations are virtually eliminated. This makes Wheel sound much cleaner, more tight and balanced.
