Wheel’s record clamping mechanism

This is the part that fixes the record securely in place. The center is made of stainless steel, the clamp/spring ‘flower’ is machined out of high grade polycarbonate. It was a challenge to find the best material, and to develop a system that’s gentle to your records, and keeps its properties after many years of use. Most work went into the shape of the clamps and the best spring action. The design doesn’t apply force to the vinyl and the paper labels of your record, but firmly holds it in place.

We decided to cnc machine it in house instead having it injection molded. It’s more hard labour, but it gives us a much tighter grip on its quality and properties.

With the stick mounted on top, and covered with a rubber layer, it is another part that’s almost invisible. But it’s crucial to the feel of Wheel!
