Wheel 3 is getting better all the time. We constantly build refinements in hardware and software into the Wheels we ship, and offer upgrades to Wheel owners if needed. We also keep inviting or visiting specialists in any relevant field, like pro audio, manufacturing, precision engineering or electronics, to be inspired, hone our skills and find ways to work together. A few weeks ago we had a team from Audio Technica Japan as guests, this week we visited Kii Audio to listen to the smartest high-end loudspeakers we know of. Read more below. Improvement...
Sometimes improvements turn out wrong. Five months ago we switched to a spectacular eco-friendly lubricant for Wheel’s moving parts. Wheels ran much smoother and more silent than ever. After six weeks, problems started to arise. Wheels went out of tune, clicked randomly or just stopped working. It took us more than a month to find out that the new grease was the cause. We nailed the issue, switched to an even better lubricant, tested that thoroughly, and recalled and replaced about 100 Wheels. The patience and support of users of the affected Wheels was heart warming. Thank you!
Magnifying glass
The more we improve Wheel, the higher our benchmark needs to be. Measuring is very important, but listening is proof. Good headphones are helpful but limited. If you really want to hear everything, right or wrong, you need the best speakers out there. You need a magnifying glass for sound.
We’ve been admirers of Kii Audio since we listened to a Wheel 3 hooked up to a Kii Three/BXT system in the studio of Sander van der Heiden, aka The Saint of Sound. We never heard Wheel 3 more neutral, transparent and with more pinpoint precision than through the Kii’s at Sanders place.
Kii Audio (kiiaudio.com) builds very advanced active loudspeakers in a scientific but sensible way. Kii Audio was founded in the Netherlands in 2014 and are now based in Germany. Their systems are widely used in world class studios and by artists like Jacob Collier and Paul McCartney.
Kii Audio’s approach inspired us to get in touch with them. Last week Piet and I visited their factory in Dingden, Germany. We were welcomed by a team of German, Dutch and Belgian guys. Europe at its best. We had an inspiring afternoon, and the team was impressed with the Wheel 3 we brought. From now on, a Wheel 3 shines in the heart of the Kii Audio listening room.
